The drop caught a lot of people off guard. ‘The Uprising’ starring Andrew Garfield went digital on September 9, 2025, just 25 days after its theatrical debut, and the Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray is already up for pre-order. No wide press tour, no fanfare. The film simply appeared.
That is the story here. Andrew Garfield leads a Bourne-style action epic that got labeled his stealth Robin Hood movie, and now you can watch it at home before most people even realized it was in theaters.
What Is The Uprising and Why It’s Being Called Andrew Garfield’s Stealth Robin Hood Movie
The Uprising is directed by Paul Greengrass, the Bourne director, and it leans hard into his kinetic, handheld chase grammar. Andrew Garfield plays a disgraced former intelligence operative who goes underground in a decaying industrial town and starts redistributing wealth from a corrupt private security firm. No green tights. No Sherwood Forest.
The Robin Hood parallel is the plot mechanics, not the costume. A masked operative, a moral code, and a series of brutal heists that feel personal. Critics latched onto it because Garfield plays it with a coiled, quiet intensity that recalls his work in ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’ more than ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.
The tone is stealth action. Less quips, more pursuit. Garfield does most of his own running. That is the hook.
The Uprising Digital Release Date and Streaming Availability
Official digital release is September 9, 2025. The film is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Vudu, and Fandango at Home. No subscription streaming window has been announced. This is a premium digital buyout first.
Why three weeks? Studio brass wanted to capitalize on word of mouth before it faded. The theatrical run was limited. Three weeks is now the new normal for mid-budget action titles that underperform in cinemas.
Rent is $19.99 for 48 hours. Buy is $24.99 in 4K HDR. Standard HD buy is $19.99.

Back to cost. The 4K disc is $10 more than digital ownership and you get Atmos and physical extras. If you care about sound, that matters.
Theatrical to Digital Window: 3 Weeks After Theatrical Debut
The theatrical debut was August 15, 2025. Digital landed September 9. Fans missed it because marketing was minimal. The film played in 1,200 theaters.
Industry trend is clear. Action epics with star power like Andrew Garfield are being pushed to digital fast to recoup. The risk is piracy. The window is so short that cam rips circulate before official release. Studios accept it.
Fan reaction is split. Some are happy to watch at home. Others feel cheated out of a proper run.
Where to Watch and Buy The Uprising Right Now
Best digital purchase is Apple TV for ecosystem owners, Amazon Prime Video for 4K price promos. Rental is fine if you just want one watch.
For the physical copy, pre-order the Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray now if you want the steelbook. Stock on steelbooks tends to sell out in the first week.
Andrew Garfield fans who want the performance in best quality should wait for the disc. The theatrical color grade is muted on purpose and it benefits from Dolby Vision.
Final Verdict: Is The Uprising Worth Watching Digitally or Waiting for 4K?
Andrew Garfield is the reason to watch. He sells the moral ambiguity without monologuing. The action direction is relentless and Greengrass keeps it grounded.
Watch digitally now if you are impatient. Buy the 4K Collector’s Edition if you want the best audio and the extras. The deleted scenes add context to Garfield’s character arc.
Bottom line: The film is a stealth hit. The release strategy is loud. You do not need to wait.
