Eight months before hosting the World Cup, the USMNT does not have a competitive match to play. That is the point. The fall 2025 window is pure lab time. Mauricio Pochettino gets three friendlies, three different opponents, and a mandate to blood new talent.
This is not filler. It is the last real audition before the roster locks. The usmnt schedule for September 2025 is built around that idea.
USMNT Fall 2025 Schedule Overview
The U.S. Soccer Federation released the three-game set on August 12. All matches are FIFA window dates and are branded as World Cup preparation friendlies.
| Match | Date | Kickoff ET | Venue | Broadcast US |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USA vs Peru | Saturday, September 6, 2025 | 7:30 PM | Audi Field, Washington DC | ESPN / Telemundo |
| USA vs Bolivia | Tuesday, September 9, 2025 | 7:00 PM | Q2 Stadium, Austin, TX | Paramount+ / Univision |
| USA vs Uruguay | Monday, September 15, 2025 | 8:00 PM | Lower.com Field, Columbus, OH | ESPN2 / Telemundo Deportes |
Match 1: USA vs Peru
Date, Kickoff Time, Venue and Broadcast are above. Peru brings a South American physical profile and a midfield that presses in waves. Expect Pochettino to test his defensive transition with a young back line.
Tickets went on sale August 20 and sold out in 72 hours for Washington.
Match 2: USA vs Bolivia
Austin gets the second game. High altitude conditioning is not a factor here, but Bolivia’s direct style is a good test for USMNT center backs against aerial balls.
This is the most likely debut night for the first batch of uncapped names. Pochettino has said he will rotate heavily between game one and two.
Match 3: USA vs Uruguay
Columbus closes the window. Uruguay is the heavyweight. Darwin Nunez or Luis Suarez could feature. The match is the closest to a real World Cup dress rehearsal.
It is also the TV showcase. ESPN2 in the US, with international rights via FIFA+.
Pochettino’s Strategy: Using 3 Friendlies as a Youth Lab
Pochettino does not want to pick a 26-man squad and play them 270 minutes. He wants options.
The Athletic reported his plan clearly: use the three games to give minutes to kids, as he should. That is the whole point of the fall window.
Back to the schedule. The spacing helps. Three days between Peru and Bolivia forces rotation. Six days before Uruguay allows recovery for the core.
Mauricio Pochettino Plans to Play USMNT Kids, As He Should
The coach has been direct in camp. He will not cap-tie players out of caution. If a player looks ready, he plays.
Pochettino’s staff is tracking club form weekly. The fall camp roster is built around dual nationals and MLS breakout talent. The goal is not results. The goal is data.
Pochettino wants five uncapped debuts across the three games. That is the target number he gave staff.
Meet the Team: Uncapped USMNT Players in Fall Camp
U.S. Soccer published a fall camp preview with the uncapped pool. The names reflect the two-track strategy: elite European prospects and MLS difference makers.
| Player | Position | Club | Why He Is In Camp |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cavan Sullivan | Attacking Mid / Winger | Philadelphia Union | Elite creativity, left foot, set piece delivery |
| Obed Vargas | Defensive Mid | Seattle Sounders | Press resistance, range, World Cup experience |
| Maximilian Barry | Center Back | PSV Eindhoven | Ball playing CB, 6’4″, Eredivisie minutes |
| Diego Morales | Forward | FC Dallas | Pace in transition, pressing profile |
| Jonah Kusi-Asare | Winger | Malmo FF | Speed, 1v1 ability, Swedish league starter |
Cavan Sullivan Profile: Is Sullivan the Next Olise? Comparisons for USMNT Top Young Stars
Cavan Sullivan is 15. He is already a professional. That alone forces comparisons.
ESPN asked directly: Is Sullivan the next Michael Olise? The stylistic overlaps are real. Both are left-footed creators with low centers of gravity. Both like to receive between lines and turn.
Olise is 6’0″ and powerful. Sullivan is smaller, quicker in tight spaces, and more of a pure number 10. The comparison is useful, not literal.
Where Sullivan differs from the USMNT’s other top young stars is tempo. He does not need to run at you. He slows the game down, finds the third pass. That is rare for American attackers.
If Sullivan gets 45 minutes vs Bolivia, that is a massive signal for 2026.
Other Uncapped Debut Candidates and Their Club Form
Maximilian Barry has started 12 Eredivisie matches for PSV. He is comfortable building from the back. That fits Pochettino’s system.
Obed Vargas is already a known quantity domestically, but this is his first senior camp. His passing under pressure is the selling point.
Jonah Kusi-Asare offers verticality. Uruguay will test his defensive work rate.
Tactical Implications and Expected Lineups for Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay
Peru: Expect a 4-3-3 with a veteran spine. Pochettino will want to see defensive shape. Debuts likely on the wing.
Bolivia: Heavy rotation. This is the youth lab night. Sullivan, Vargas, and Morales are prime candidates for starts.
Uruguay: More experienced group. The coach will want to see how the kids hold up after 90 minutes of exposure. Late cameos for the uncapped.
